2009 Canadian e-Learning Conference Program

Does Technology Affect the Way We Learn?

Session Title: Does Technology Affect the Way We Learn?

Time & Date: 3:05 P.M. – 4:00 P.M., Thursday, June 18, 2009

Location: Rm. 260, Irving K. Barber Learning Centre (IKBLC)

Session Description: Much current discussion of the applications of new technologies in learning environments suggests that the “Millennials” actually learn differently and, therefore, educators should adapt their teaching methodologies to accommodate these new learners.

In this presentation I will challenge this notion and suggest that learning is a biological phenomenon that is evolutionarily conserved. Only when we elucidate the fundamental biological principles that underlie the process of learning will we be able to truly understand how learning occurs and how best to adapt our teaching practice to optimize learning outcomes.

Conference Stream: Open, Connected, & Social

Session Format: Paper Jam

Presenter: Dr. David G. Harper

Presenter Bio: Dr. Harper was the content editor for Education for a Digital World: Advice, Guidelines, and Effective Practice From Around the Globe (2008), a collaborative effort of more than 100 international e-Learning experts.
