Session Title: Promoting Openness in Higher Education: Which Way Now?

Session Description: This roundtable discussion will review strategies for the promotion of open education practices and open educational resources (OERs). The intent of the session is to map existing resources and approaches, to identify challenges, and to articulate directions for future development. Technical, policy, teaching and learning considerations will all be up for discussion. While surveying the open educational movement will account for its international dimensions, there will be special emphasis on the Canadian context.

Presenter Bio: Brian Lamb is Manager, Emerging Technologies and Digital Content for UBC’s Office of Learning Technology. He also teaches a course on “Text Technologies: The Changing Spaces of Reading and Writing” for UBC’s Master of Educational Technology program. He mutters ill-tempered observations on social learning, open education, disruptive technologies and other such things on his weblog, Abject Learning.
