Session Title: Is the Past Present? An Example of Digital Humanities

Location: Student Union Building (SUB) Partyroom
Session Description: Over the last year and a half, Arts Instructional Support and Information Technology (ISIT) and the Division of Aboriginal People’s Health at the University of British Columbia, with other university and community partners, have collaborated on an international comparative online course that examines the historical context for contemporary health issues of Indigenous peoples. We have created multimedia components using 3D modeling software and gaming scenarios using Flash technology. The original intent of using this technology was to create an engaging online environment for health professional students whose schedules include many competing demands. The poster session will be an opportunity to share the online environment we have created and discuss the challenges and opportunities of working across disciplines in the newly-emerging field of digital humanities.

Co-Presenter Bio: Negin is a course developer and designer for the Faculty of Arts at UBC. She designs distance education courses and supports and guides instructors who use technology for their face-to-face courses as well.
Co-Presenter: Lyana Patrick
Co-Presenter Bio: Lyana is the Education Coordinator for the Division of Aboriginal People’s Health at UBC. She develops content and curriculum for interprofessional Aboriginal health courses and coordinates seminars, workshops and programs.
