Session Title: BCNET

Time & Date: 12:40 P.M. – 1:55 P.M., Wednesday, June 17, 2009

Location: Student Union Building (SUB) Partyroom

Session Description: BCNET builds high-performance networks for British Columbia’s (B.C.) research and higher education institutions – enabling connections, collaborations and innovation. Collectively funded by B.C’s universities, federal and provincial governments, BCNET is a not-for-profit organization that manages the development of the province’s high-speed dedicated Optical Regional Advanced Network (ORAN). The ORAN links researchers and educators in B.C. across the country and globally; and enables world class projects in the areas of science, health, physics and education.

BCNET continually investigates new ways to improve the network and its performance and explore innovative applications such as high definition videoconferencing and Voice over IP for inter-institutional collaboration.
